On This Day: April 29th

On this day in 1986, Wallis Simpson – Duchess of Windsor – was laid to rest beside her late husband, the abdicated King Edward VIII. Simpson was an American socialite and divorcee who fell in love with the King and decided to marry in 1936. Edward’s decision to abdicate led to a constitutional crisis, but his decision to marry someone he loves rather than take the throne has been described as ‘the greatest love story of the twentieth century’.
